About
I am a Rhode Island based artist, but also have roots in Massachusetts, USA. Originally from western Pennsylvania, I came to New England in 1980. I earned a BS from Penn State University and a MFA from Boston University.
My primary medium is clay either fired or cast in a variety of materials such as bronze, resin and paper. I look for inspiration in the living form which I find to be so expressive, complex and challenging. I approach my artwork by searching for the inner life of my subjects and strive to reveal it by understanding anatomy and the dynamics and movement of the body whether human or animal.
In my abstract sculptures, I search for form through light and shadow. I create movement and volume by looking for how light defines and reveals shape and form. These elements can be subtle or sharply defined and allow me to bring my ideas to life using nature’s own pallet.
